Answer: Dano:If you represent a non-profit organization, a research institution, a college or university, a local governing body or a state, or if you're working with a large private contractor, then the federal government has lots and lots of money available for you.If you're none of those things, and you're looking for federal "grants" that you can use for financial assistance, there is no such thing. The reason those supposed "services" charge you hidden fees is because they're running a scam. Some will send you impressive looking packets of information that you could have had for free, and others will send you really bad, blurry copies of hard-to-read papers, and still others will send you absolutely nothing.All of those websites, all of those guides, all of those late night commercials - they're all fake - every one of them.The federal government offers ONE type of large-scale grant program for individuals - the handful of programs that are part of the federal student aid program. To qualify, you must be an American citizen or eligible non-citizen, and you must be registered as a degree-seeking student at an eligible institution of post-secondary education. Before you can receive any such grant, the Department of Education will verify your enrollment at an eligible school - and the grant funds will be paid directly to the school, in your name.If that's the program that you are interested in - financial aid that must be used for college and university educational expenses, you should visit http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/Otherwise, I recommend that you spend some time at the federal government's grant site - http://grants.gov/Look around and you'll find this warning:"ATTENTION!
